I was talking with a client last week and we were discussing the challenges that they were facing in their business and how all consuming they were and I had a realisation about what it is that I have noticed is holding back business owner after business owner that I have worked with over the last 15 years, both here in Australia and overseas.

Most of the time, business owners get in their own way…

They get in the way of their;

staff
partners
profit
customers wanting to spend

Simply not allowing themselves to be the successful business owner that they deserve or want to be.

I have witnessed first hand, some truly talented business owners. They have a terrific service or product, they are passionate, experienced, knowledgeable and caring…. yet they are just getting by and in some cases, they are going broke.

Even with their best intentions, they have failed to capitalize on their strengths and let their weaknesses define them and their business.

I hate seeing amazingly talented business owners doing it tough avoiding the tough decisions and all they do is simply hope things will change, because they don’t want to tackle the real core problem that deep down they know they have to deal with.

The crazy thing is the solution is actually a ‘quick fix’ i.e. taking the steps that are required to have a successful and profitable business.

What came to me last week was that the things that need to happen for any business to be successful; can be quite confronting and challenging for many people.

Whether it is the fear of rejection, the fear of standing out or the fear, standing alone the fear of success or the fear of failure, these business owners either keep pretending they don’t know what they need to do or… they really don’t know what they need to do and when they need to do it.
